Thoughts on Slumdog

Yesterday Slumdog Millionaire was released on DVD. The great service Netflix delivered it to me today. I somehow missed this in theaters, didn’t hear much about it until everyone was hearing everything about it. Here’s a short review by a non-movie critic.

The movie started off kind of slow. I wasn’t sure of the premise - the whole gameshow combined with flashbacks of growing up in the slums. I wanted to see more of the kids in the past and less of the present situation. At two hours long there was quite enough of each.

Something happened at some point during the movie - I had gotten to know Jamal Malik (the main character who was on the gameshow) and really got pulled into this story. I laughed, I cried, I got pissed and I got excited. Not wanting to give anything away, I will just say that the ending was incredible, and that it wasn’t all about the gameshow.

See it for yourself. It’s worth two hours of your time.
