Rambling about stuff
One benefit I’ve found of going to the gym directly from work is I can go home afterward, do nothing, and not feel guilty about it.
I’ve lightened my workload at work, mainly because I haven’t been giving myself time to take care of myself. Exercise and eating like I should went behind - and when I got sick several weeks ago I didn’t bounce back like I should have. It took too long.
Good news, I’ve gained five pounds during the last couple of weeks! I was down to 144 - I never wanted to be below 150 again. My goal is to be a lean, mean 175 by the time I hit 30. That happens in seven months. Damn! If you had asked me 10 years ago where I’d be at 30 I would have replied “in the grave”. I guess that’s why I’m married with adopted kids (darn congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens), and a great money manager. Yes sarcasm is a trait I got from both sides my family tree.
In financial news, I’m finally working on getting myself out of stupid messes I’ve slipped into, and even started a savings account a while back. I started the account to save for the next camera I want to buy (Canon 5d MKII - insane rig about to be released next month). It’s a good thing to put the money I’d otherwise blow on stupid crap away.
I went to the dentist today and found out that I will have to drain a large portion of those savings there. I got over my dentist phobia about a year ago - some places in my mouth that were on their “watch list” have escalated to “do this now”. This includes several fillings and a porcelain crown - $1,300 out of my pocket. Between my flex spending account (which will be drained) and a portion of my savings it will mostly be covered. Camera delayed, but I don’t have to scramble to find the money or delay the treatment I need while the cavities get worse. I feel really great about that, and it will only motivate me to keep saving as much as I can. If anybody has gone a long time without going to the dentist, for any reason, go NOW! It will only get worse, and be more painful and costly later.
I have to go buy toothpaste because my parents stole mine after being a houseguest over the weekend. Dad if you are in need, just ask - I’ll buy you a tube! That’s a joke of course, they packed mine by mistake.
A couple technologies I have been digging recently: Cisco WAAS, VMWare Lab Manager, iSCSI storage area networks.
Technology disappointments on my mind: Apple’s new laptops and displays are only glossy. Come on, make non-glossy displays an option! Polycom - release a Mac version of your PVX software please!!! Polycom and Cisco - stop requiring MS Internet Explorer for management pages of you devices! I have a windows vm on my workstation just for that purpose, nothing else. It eats too much RAM.
Heroes is a great show. I don’t know how they keep it interesting without getting really weird.
I’m really behind on the writing a chapter of the Bible a day thing. I am just going to resume writing a chapter a day without worrying about catching up. The whole point is to get to know the word better, it’s not a contest.
Mr Eleven is gone. I think I inadvertently starved him to death. I had him for a year and a half. I was a horrible pet owner in the end. Oh well, one less chore. I do kind of miss him though, when I sit at the computer he’s supposed to be over there to the left of me - now there is just a blank wall. I should have rethinked looking at him as a chore most of the time.
I’ve got to go to Richmond tomorrow for work - leaving at 7am. I’ve been dreading that all day, getting up that early.
I need to take photographs of something, it’s been too long.
Ciao.
I’m glad we got that tooth paste, now we can eat another day!!!! have fun in Richmond
1) Dental work sucks and I am blessed to have a dental ryder on my ridiculously priced insurance (which I am sure is so ridiculously priced due to said dental ryder)
2) I have also been a bad pet parent as I literally lost my only hamster back in college and I left my two precious cats in Savannah with a strange man so that I could travel the world and get my stuff together. Of all the things I miss? Them. Trust me.
3) Heroes is the best show I have seen this millennium. It has attractive, stylish, compelling characters. It has a forward moving plot. And it has grown-ups with really cool super powers and matching sense of morose humor.
4) I am glad you say Ciao.
I have a dental PPO, which is nice and doesn’t cost that much. Covers two cleanings a year and i think $1,000 of extra stuff - which I used most of earlier this year - my out of pocket is after using that up.
You’re sounding so darn mature !
