The Handwritten Word

Handwriting the Bible

Just this morning I was thinking of how I should start journaling again, and reading the Bible a lot more. God and I need to be closer, I have withdrawn myself. Later in the day I see one of my friends talking about handwriting the entire Bible, one chapter a day. What a challenge and a way to really dive deep into the Word!

Find out more (though not a lot yet) at this site.

Oh, and here is my schedule (that took a while for me to do). Wow. This will take a while. I will be done on July 8, 2011.

wow you’ll be done on my 31st birthday weird. That sounds really cool and a way that I too could better get into the word. I am going to pray over this and consider it. Lata, Justis

Wow! That is one of the coolest things to do that I’ve heard of lately. So much cooler than growing some sort of body hair. You’re a real inspiration, Joe! Love you!

I like it, you are encouraging me.

I like that idea too. I did that once with the book of Revelation, and it really impacted my life. Whose website is that link from? I just would like to know who “we” is. If you miss a day, would you double up, or just pick up where you left off at the same pace? I think you’ll find lots of stuff you never knew was there. You are inspiring me too, Joe. And your Mom and Dad are, too. I had such a nice time visiting; it was hard to go back to work today.

It’s a friend of mine, the same one that I heard it from built the site - which is still in progress. I know him from Whiskerino. So ‘we’ is him and I and some other people he knows (guy’s name is Nathan). I guess it’s up to whoever is doing it on whether they want to double up or just pick up where everyone else left off.

Because of the timing of when I heard about this project, I knew it was something I was supposed to do. So if nobody else does it I’ll keep trucking along - the community aspect of it does add accountability though.

After the first day I realize it’s harder to write than to read but I am comprehending more.

That’s the point, you cannot just move your eyes across the page while your mind is somewhere else when you are writing it down verbatim. Also, another benefit I am seeing to this is it will force me to go through the entire Old Testament, something that I don’t read enough of.

What version are you using? I’m using The Message.

  8. aunt gwyn says:

NIV, maybe I will use different ones each day. (:

I got a late start today and wrote chapter one and two. I will catch up tomorow with chapters 3 and 4. I am also using the message that I bought today. It is a great version for reading and doing this. I really like it so far. Thanks again for the inspiration, Justin

Great idea. I have read through the entire Bible several times but this would be a great way to really take time to comprehend. Parts of it can be a real ’sleeper.’ (auugh)! I might use the New Century Version. It is pretty much like the Message but I feel a little more every day language friendly. It didn’t stay in curculation long - I guess just never had someone famous backing it. Anyway, will see. Will catch up with you this weekend.
    Love ya, Me
