New York Times finally gets it
I can’t count the number of times I’ve gone to a link to a New York Times article only to find I cannot access the article unless I am a paid subscriber. For me (and most others) it meant pushing the back button rather than pulling out the credit card.

Now they see that most of their traffic is from search engines or from other websites, so they will now see a revenue increase by serving the content for free and selling ads on those pages.
This is a great step for traditional media services to take. For too long newspapers and magazines have seen it as “our way” against “their way”. Instead of learning the habits of internet users in todays marketplace and capitalizing on that they have tried to maintain a fine line between the two. Part of this, I believe, has been a safety blanket, of sorts, or a lackluster method to stay alive. Whatever the case I am glad to see such a notable news source take the lead that others will inevitably follow.
