Wyoming, here am I
Last night we finally made it back to the team here in Jackson, WY. Derek wrote a blog about it that we put on the wave site (click here to read). We had a little experience with a flat tire and no jack in Dallas. Fun stuff. Nothing drastic happened and after 3100 miles, we made it. This morning both Derek and myself slept in until noon. Well deserved I’d say, that’s a perfect time to wake up after all the time we spent in Jasmine (that’s what Derek named his CRV). Here’s a little run-down of what I’ve done since Tuesday:
Tuesday, 7:15 am CST
Napolean, ND
I woke up in my tent, looked across to Derek’s tent and said good morning, as he was just waking up too. He asked if I wanted to ride to Texas to help with the drive, since it was a very long one. Why not? I’m here to help and truthfully I didn’t know if I was going to enjoy South Dakota if it was anything like North Dakota.
Tuesday, 10:00am CST
Napolean
We’re off!
Tuesday, ~12:00pm CST
Border between North Dakota and South Dakota
After a lot of unpaved, unnamed roads, we are finally in South Dakota!
Tuesday, ~11:00pm CST
Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas
Alana is very unhappy about still being in her car seat, and she did a good job at letting us know about it. She did very well for a 14 month old, she’s one of the coolest babies I’ve ever seen.
Wednesday, 2:00am CST
Wichita, Kansas
We finally make it to our stopping point, Quezia’s mother’s house in Wichita, Kansas. We pretty much said hi and got shown where we were to sleep.
Wednesday, 11:00am CST
Wichita, Kansas
We woke up and spent about an hour and a half chatting and eating lasagna for lunch. Quezia’s mom is very cool, though I don’t remember her name. We leave at 1:00 for Texas.
Wednesday, 8:00pm CST
Dallas, Texas
After finally hooking up with Emile’s friend and figuring out a meeting place (Cowboy Stadium) we drop Emile off. She stayed the night and left for Australia to be with her sister the next day. After this we find a Wendy’s, eat, change a tire, then leave for Lindale, Texas.
Thursday, 12:30 am
YWAM Woodcrest (Lindale)
We arrive at our destination, find our place to sleep, and go to bed.
Thursday, before noon
Woodcrest Base and Lindale
This day is filled with a trip to Sam’s Club for some new tires and some other places to run errands. I also got caught up on the wave website that night since there was internet access.
Friday, 10:00am CST
Woodcrest Base
We pack the car and leave for Dallas.
Friday, 12:00pm CST
Dallas, Texas
We get to immigration and Quezia gets her fingerprinting and whatnot done. We eat lunch and leave for Wichita.
Friday, 9:30pm CST
Wichita, Kansas
We arrive back to Quezia’s mom’s house. She is so cool. We had some Brazillian food (oh my gosh was it good) and went to bed.
Saturday, 9:00am CST
Wichita, Kansas
We awoke to some strange electrical problems. Unfortunately there was nothing we can do about it so a landlord was called and we left for Wyoming, intending to get all the way to Jackson.
Saturday, ~4:30pm CST
In the middle of freaking cornfields and nothing else, Nebraska
Wow, we had a great distance until we got to Jackson. 4 am was our estimate. Little rocky mountain roads, elk on the road, and a 14 month old in the car made us realize that we shouldn’t try to do the whole thing that night. We found a hotel in Laramie, WY (thanks Drew for your help on finding it) and were on our way.
Saturday, 9:00pm MST
Laramie, Wyoming
According to a Wyoming guidebook, this was one of the roughest cities in the old west. It’s pretty tame now, and the bed at our best value inn or whatever felt very nice that night.
Sunday, 10:00am MST
Laramie, Wyoming
We leave the hotel. Nothing else exciting here.
Sunday, 1:00pm MST
Rock Springs, Wyoming
We stop at a Walmart so that we can get the oil changed in Jasmine. Good thing he uses synthetic since it was 7,000 miles since the last one (but 3,000 were from that week!).
Sunday, 6:00pm MST
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Doesn’t that name almost sound dirty? Kind of like I just took a shower a couple of hours ago because my Sleeper Hole started to stink. Anyway, this is a beautiful place about 30 minutes south of Yellowstone Park and we finally made it! Good thing that we stayed in a hotel Saturday night, it was a gnarly drive once we got off of the interstate. It was also cool seeing the vegitation change from flat to hills to desert rocky mountains then to fir tree covered mountains. Amazing, we complemented God on the good job he did designing Wyoming
I won’t include today because it really hasn’t been that much… I did try a strange drink though - a chai tea with two shots of espresso in it. The coffee bar called it a … i forgot. It was interesting though. It’ll probably be better with only one shot, their espresso is kind of strong.
Tomorrow we’ll be getting lectures from the pastor at this church here (a series titled “The Centrality of The Cross”). Hopefully it’ll be good - sometimes we need to eat rather than feed…
Bye Y’all!
(I have seen more cowboys in Wyoming than in Texas)
I’m so thankful that you get to take a shower once in awhile! Glad you’re back with the “gang!” Love, Mama
Glad to see you got the language down ;-)) Man, you have covered some miles. Glad everyone is safe. Stay cool!!
